Morkie BREED INFORMATION
Blending the sweetness of the Maltese and the assertiveness of the Yorkshire Terrier, the Morkie is a sociable and interactive dog, capturing hearts wherever it goes. Ideal for the city or suburbs, he's equally happy playing in a yard or a living room. He plays well with children (especially older, gentler ones). He gets along well with other pets and will interact with them in a comical and curious way. Though he enjoys lots of snuggle time, the Morkie can also have an independent side which enjoys a little, solitary “me” time on occasion. However, the Morkie craves attention from family members, and if left alone for long periods of time he may get depressed. A nice walk, a squeaky-toy game on the carpet or an afternoon snooze with his owner will always suffice. Believe it or not, this compact bundle of joy makes a very fine watchdog, as he’s alert, fearless and extremely protective of his family. Morkies are intelligent and very trainable, however they will not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency. Life expectancy: 12 to 15 years.
The full grown Morkie will weigh 4-9 lbs and will stand 6-10 inches high. The Morkie’s silky coat comes in a variety of solid colors and color combination: black, tan, white, black and tan. He may be solid, sable, or distinctively marked.
The Morkie is a low to non-shedding dog. To keep his coat maintenance-free, have him trimmed into a “puppy cut” every couple of months. However, if you prefer to keep his hair long, his fine, silky coat will need to be brushed daily to avoid tangles and mats.
